Additional support

We provide students with additional pastoral and administrative support to ensure that all needs are met. Our parents can rest assured in the knowledge that their children’s wellbeing is at the forefront of everything we do at Luminary.

Student Mentoring

Students have to make tough decisions. We help our students every step of the way: from advice on choosing the right subjects to creating strong organisational habits that last a lifetime.

Our mentors play an active role in encouraging resilience, accountability and a positive mindset in pupils and are experienced in supporting students both in and out of the classroom. We help our students to keep on top of their school portals, make sure that homework is being completed to a high standard and ensure that we pick up on any problem areas before they can escalate.

Governor & Governess

Governor & Governess

Governor & Governess

A Governor/Governess is a qualified professional employed by private households to educate and mentor their children on a full-time basis. They are educated individuals who fulfil the roles of teacher and academic mentor.

Working with a governor or governess to mentor students on a permanent basis can be the best way to get results. A governor or governess placement guarantees quality, consistency and flexibility to match your needs, regardless of location.

Luminary Education's team of experts will handpick suitable candidates and create an appropriate arrangement to suit your child's needs. We can arrange visa, transport and accommodation support where needed. Once the governor or governess begins their role, Luminary can provide comprehensive academic support to ensure continued progress.

FAQs

My child is joining a school in the UK. Do they need a guardian?

Every international student under the age of 18 in the UK requires a legal guardian. In the case that students do not have a parent based in the UK and they are studying at a boarding school, companies such as Alderwood Guardians can be appointed as their legal guardian.

We have trouble translating and understanding the communications we receive from my son’s school in the UK. Can you help?

We can translate and condense key information from schools to save your time and make sure that you do not miss anything important.

My daughter is struggling with organising her work at school. Should we be looking for a tutor or a mentor?

This would be the ideal opportunity to work with a mentor. Our mentors work with their students to promote organisational skills and increase their independence. They are not there to spoon-feed students and complete their work for them, they are there to provide support and key skills in order for students to stay on top of their studies now and for the years ahead.

Are all of your governors native English speakers?

We provide native-speaker governors, governesses and nannies from a variety of countries based on the requirements of the client. Most often, we have requests for native English, Spanish and French speakers, however we have also placed Mandarin, bilingual and multilingual governesses and governors with families.

What is the difference between a governor and a vacation tutor?

Governors and Governesses provide a more immersive experience, often working with younger students, but not exclusively. The aim is often to improve language skills through interactions during everyday activities and play. Whereas, vacation tutors are more likely to be subject specific tutors working to specific syllabuses and preparing students for examinations.
