We provide termly reports for all students and provide these to clients with translations where necessary.

How does it work?

1. Consultation

Each of our tutoring assignments begins with a discussion with parents and students to understand their educational aims.

2. Academic Assessment & Interview

One of our senior tutors conducts an academic assessment in the chosen subject. This allows us to get an accurate and detailed understanding of your child’s level and their strengths and weaknesses.

3. Academic Report & Study Plan

Once the senior tutor has drafted the assessment report, they work together with our academic manager to produce a study plan for the student. This is then sent to the parents for their consideration.

4. Scheduling Lessons

Once a schedule has been agreed, a timetable is published and lessons begin.

5. Regular Progress Meetings

Tutor deliver reports 4 times over the course of the academic year. We stay in close contact with parents to keep them updated on their child’s progress.

Exam Preparation

Preparing for exams can be a particularly stressful experience as exams require not just a high level of subject knowledge, but also practice of exam technique. Our tutors help to make preparing for exams a more enjoyable experience, which ultimately results in greater efficiency of revision and subsequently higher grades.

We provide support to students in all subjects and for all exam boards at GCSE, IGCSE and A-level. We also have specialist tutors who work with students to prepare for IB examinations.

Vacation Tutors

Our Vacation Tutor service allows families to continue their studies, uninterrupted, whilst travelling.

Short-term tutors

Vacation Tutors add an important extra dimension to students' holidays, as tutors can be selected for their specific sporting or artistic profiles: skiing, cycling, diving, tennis or music, painting and crafts. In addition to their specialist academic skills, they provide valuable companionship and guidance.

FAQs

Why does Luminary conduct an Academic Interview and Assessment?

Our Academic Interviews and Assessments provide us with greater insight into the individual strengths and weaknesses of each student. They allow us to match students with tutors based on their interests and learning style.

Our Academic Assessments are conducted by our Senior Tutors in the required subjects, who will then work together with a member of Luminary’s Management Team to produce a detailed report and study plan focussed on achieving the specific aims of the student.

I can’t find the exam I'm taking in your list of services. Can you still help?

The list of examinations and exam boards provided above is not exhaustive. Our large network of tutors across the UK, Europe and the US means we can provide tuition and support for all exams.

We have tried lessons for my son via zoom, but he just won’t sit still! Is there any hope?

For some learners, lessons via Zoom can be a challenge. However, there is always a way to make online learning suitable: a different platform that provides more engagement; varied tasks and exercises; shorter lessons/ lessons with more breaks. Our tutors identify the most suitable approach to ensure your child remains focussed. If you live in London, Cyprus or Dubai, we are also able to offer in-person tutoring, which may be most suitable for younger students.

Do your tutors cover all the different exam boards for GCSEs and A-levels?

We have tutors who work with all exam boards for GCSEs, iGCSEs and A-levels. Many of our tutors specialise in providing support for examinations for 2 or 3 exam boards. It is very important to provide information on the exam boards at the initial stage, as this has an effect on not just what is being taught, but the depth to which a subject area is required to be taught.

Do you have tutors that specialise in tutoring for the IB DP and IB MYP?

We have tutors across Europe who have experience working in accredited IB world schools, as well as International schools. They have undergone the necessary training and have a full understanding of the specific curriculum requirements for the IB programme. We can also provide specialist tutors to support students through their Extended Essays (EE), CAS projects, IAs and TOK Essays.

My child has special educational needs. Can you help?

Although not every tutor has experience working with SEND students, we are able to work with you and your child to find a tutor who best fits their specific needs. Please contact us to discuss your child’s requirements.
